1) Users with virus detection software will have to temporarily disable it during the entire purchase process, otherwise the key installation process may erroneously trigger the virus warning.
2) Users with INIT management software should enable the Instant INIT, and it should be set to run after the CD ROM driver INIT. If this is not done, the Instant volume will not auto-mount when the CD ROM containing it is mounted.
3) It is important that you back up the Instant INIT after each purchase, as the information which allows access to the software is stored in the INIT.
4) With the initial release of In an Instant , Quadra users will have to shut off the cache to make purchases. This will be rectified in the near future.
5) There is a known problem with the Instant INIT running on Mac Quadras. Quadra users will need to use an init manager such as "Init Picker" to disable the Instant Init or use ResEdit to change the file type of the Instant Init from "INIT" to "XIAI."
6) You must have the Nautilus disc in your CD ROM drive when making purchases.
7) NEVER dismount the CD containing an IaI volume while the "Instant" volume is mounted on your desktop; this is likely to precipitate a crash. Close all open applications/files on the Instant volume, then drag it to the trash first.
8) If you are a Quadra user and have experienced difficulties Linking, try turning the cache off before you Link. This has helped other Nautilus subscribers.
9) Modems & Linking
Some Nautilus users have had difficulties linking with sophisticated/ late model modems whose functionality is programmed into a ROM rather than hardwired. The problems can occur when the user's modem does not have the latest version of the ROM and is trying to connect to a high speed modem. We have specifically seen problems with modems from Abaton/Everex and US Robotics, for example.
The problems caused by an old ROM include the inability to connect at all, inability to connect when error checking or compression are turned on, and the inability to download after a successful upload. If you experience any such difficulty in connecting or staying connected, please contact the modem manufacturer and explain the problem. Please tell us, too, so we can update this information!
Modem manufacturers typically do not publicize the fact they have updated the ROM. They wait until they get calls to provide new ROMs only to those users who have experienced difficulty, generally at no charge. We will also be happy to work with you and the modem manufacturer to help rectify these problems; contact our Technical Support Representatives at 614/766-3150.
10) The CD ROM drive must be local to your Mac to use In an Instant properly. Networked CD ROM drives will not work in the current version of In an Instant.
